CMS comparison: Joomla vs Drupal vs WordPress
A question that many people ask is which of these CMS (Content Management System) is the most suited to their needs, which is the best of them and almost always presented this comparison Drupal vs Joomla vs WordPress.
In general there is none better than another, only advantages to using one over another and it is explained in parts here.
Learning Curve
One of the reasons so many people use CMS is the ability to use these and also little or no need for code (PHP, HTML, JS) which latter discussed later.
WordPress is the most simple of the three to the time to learn how to do things, one of the most intuitive and therefore create the page once installed this cms on the server is a simple task.
The following serious Joomla, given that it is a little bit more tricky understanding how things work for the quantity of menus.
And Drupal would be the last, really progressed in this, but it is not intuitive for people who know nothing of the web.
What is the most famous
They may seem silly to take into account which is the most famous, but the fame, things are very important, such as documentation, tutorials, application development, among many other things.
If we look at the world ranking alexa that gives positions have web pages for each project.
-
WordPress world ranking #79
-
Joomla world ranking #282
-
Drupal world ranking #420
Note: These positions were taken 04/05/2012, therefore may be different at the time you read this article.
Therefore to see the statistics, says that wordpress is more popular (in others words the most used and searching the net).
Application development
Application development is linked with several variables, which are the simplicity of making code and use efficiency resources, however, if you are a programmer basic, wordpress is the easiest thing you can get, really developing this CMS applications is very simple, I leave a level that I think should have to program in each of them.
-
WordPress (PHP basic is enough)
-
Joomla (PHP basic-medium)
-
Drupal (PHP medium-advanced)
Extensions or plugin
If you do not know how to program, no problems with that, given that these three cms have big communities which are given the task of bringing these extensions (extra features), really almost 3 is a simple task to implement these extensions, but I think wordpress, more intuitive than the 3.
However it depends on the need and the site you want to implement here, since you get a lot more powerful plugin in Joomla or Drupal, WordPress (so I think).
Performance
A major factor in the web, system performance given that the more famous it becomes your page need more resources, which leads to several problems such as server overload, problem, rate, among others.
Unfortunately I could not test, the information found on the Internet, comes out as a winner Drupal (natively), followed by WordPress (natively, but to activate some caching system outperforms drupal) and worse off in any case is Joomla.
Themes
Something is important but not both, are the themes (the visual form of the page), given that a good presentation will attract people, but also good content (presentation + content is the key to a good website) , here is the list in the order I’ve seen it get templates easier and more number.
-
WordPress
-
Joomla
-
Drupal
Types of websites to create
It depends what type of page you create you can get limitations, so if you want to create a simple page presentation or blog, wordpress is the ideal, is well suited to the task of creating websites excellently blog type (actually its main function), or no display websites, but you’re making things too complex is not ideal, for it is Joomla or Drupal given that best fit and to websites that provide more services, such as a page with galleries images, e-commerce, community, and many more.
-
WordPress (for blog websites type, or personal websites or business presentation)
-
Joomla o Drupal (for services pages).
Winner Joomla vs Drupal vs WordPress
I think in most of instances, wordpress is the best option, given the ease of working at for non-programmed, which happens to be intuitive, performance, although clear this does not take into wordpress, for websites complex, for it would take longer since I have Drupal acceptable knowledge of PHP, but for too long work with Joomla, but I was a little disappointed by its performance, and little effort we put into the SEO part of the system (not discussed here, but most important).
